What is IFS Logistics?
The scope of the IFS Logistics v.3 Standard covers all types of transport and warehousing services within the logistics supply chain. This includes, among others, transportation by truck, train, ship, or airplane, as well as storage under controlled temperature or ambient conditions.
The IFS Logistics Standard applies to both food and non-food products. It covers all logistics activities such as loading, transport, unloading, warehousing, transshipment, and further distribution of products.
The IFS Logistics Standard also applies to certain logistics processing services that may be carried out in addition to the main warehousing service at the audited site (freezing and defrosting, ripening of fruits and vegetables, simple quality sorting of fruits and vegetables, packing of already packaged products, labeling involving the application of pre-prepared labels to packaged products intended for the end consumer).
In addition, this Standard also applies to logistics companies:
- using service providers for transport and/or warehousing,
- exclusively organizing transport without having their own transport units,
- offering short-term storage and/or transport of containers to their own container yard.
The IFS Logistics Standard does not apply to the following activities:
- the processing of food or non-food products (except for logistics processing services allowed within the scope of IFS Logistics, in accordance with Part 1, Figure 2 and Annex 1 of the Standard),
- import and trading of goods (e.g. typical brokerage companies engaged in purchasing activities),
- transport of live animals.
