Organic farming is an environmentally friendly method of farming and breeding that is based on the responsible use of natural resources. Its goal is to provide diverse, healthy and high-quality food products – without harming nature, but rather for its benefit.
In practice, this means, among other things, completely abandoning chemical fertilizers, artificial plant protection products, industrial feeds and genetically modified organisms (GMOs). Instead, solutions are used that support natural processes – such as crop rotation, catch crops or natural pest control methods.
Particularly important in organic farming are the care for plant biodiversity and high animal welfare. Choosing organic production is an expression of care for nature, but also a response to the growing interest of consumers in healthy and natural food.
Participating in the organic production system offers a number of real benefits:
- growing consumer interest and greater demand for organic products,
- the possibility of obtaining certificate confirming the quality and reliability of production,
- positive impact on the environment,
- improving soil fertility and ecosystem health,
- production of products free from chemical residues of fertilizers and pesticides,
- financial support under the Rural Development Programme.
The organic farming certificate is not only a confirmation of quality and compliance with regulations – for most market participants it is necessary to be able to refer to organic production and enjoy its full benefits.
Certificates for organic farming market participants are issued and made available in the EU TRACES IT system: https://webgate.ec.europa.eu/tracesnt/directory/publication/organic-operator/index
